This month we are focused on pastels for our Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I'm a little thin with pastel colors but I did manage to scrape together three Grandma's Jewels. I'm doing this using the English Paper Pieced method.

This week has been a busy one. Mom turned 93 on Thursday, June 18th. At Physical Therapy on Wednesday, they surprised Mom with a birthday banner, a couple balloons, cake, and a bottle of wine! Mom was delighted with the thoughtfulness and surprise of it all. |

I made "Party Cookies" for Mom with the intent to pass them out to the neighbors. Unfortunately we are in a younger neighborhood with everyone working so only one plate got passed out and then we've been too busy to distribute any more. We will try to do more this weekend. After all, it's not everyday that someone turns 93 so it's definitely worth the effort. |

On Thursday we took her to dinner at Longhorn Steakhouse where we met with Fred's sister Betty. We had good conversation with our dinner and didn't get home until after 9:00. Unfortunately we missed several "birthday calls" from the family.Fridays are always busy for Mom because it's her standing appointment day for getting her hair done. This time I also got a trim so we were gone a little longer than normal. When we got home she got one big phone call from my brother's house -- two of his kids with spouses were there for Father's Day Weekend! So much to catch up on with all of them!!
In the meantime we're getting our deck replaced. The old deck was giving me some safety concerns.

Completion is expected by next weekend. So looking forward to enjoying the new deck!
That about wraps up the old and the new around here. Please feel free to join the other RSC bloggers HERE to see what scrap-happiness they've gotten up to lately!
Your pastels are pretty. Yeah on the deck project. It will be so pretty and relaxing when done. Enjoy the new deck.
ReplyDeleteThanks! I'm not sure I'll be able to come up with any more pastel jewels but my hands are busy with other projects. I'm looking forward to stitching on the deck. Let's hope we don't get summer heat too soon!
DeleteHappy birthday to your mom! 93 is a very impressive milestone! We just finished replacing our big deck last week. We have a gate on it and the hardware for the gate is all that remains, so the contractor will install that once the hardware actually arrives.
ReplyDeleteI hope the hardware for the gate has arrived and been installed by now or at least scheduled for this week. I'm just hoping my deck is done and I can sew out there before the heat of Summer arrives!
DeleteHappy Birthday to your mom! It sounds like there were some fun celebrations. Glad your deck replacement is moving along, too. Pretty pastel jewels - three looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteThree seems like the likely total for June. I've been working on a challenge from my LQS. It'll be due the first Monday of July, whatever date that falls on. It would be nice if I could do some July RSC sewing before the heat of Summer arrives.
DeleteAaw Happy Happy Birthday to your dear Mom. It sounds like she has had a wonderful celebration. Mmmm the Triple chocolate cake and the yummy birthday cookies look delectable. How exciting to have your deck replaced. It is looking good. Will you be replacing your shed too? It will be nice to sit on your new deck and perhaps work on a bit of EPP. Enjoy your weekend, Susie. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteYes, Melisa, I'm so looking forward to sewing on the new deck. I just hope Summer doesn't bring on the heat right away after installation. Lol!
DeleteHappy 93rd birthday wishes to your Mum! Your new deck and steps will be wonderful, and take away that safety hazard.
ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Jenny. We don't need another deck crash/accident. So much stress! I'm looking forward to relaxing on the deck. Let's hope the heat of summer doesn't all of a sudden arrive! Lol!
DeleteYour jewels look great - difficult to do in pastels. Great birthday celebrations for Mom. Your new decking is going to be lovely. xx
ReplyDeleteI am so looking forward to sewing on the new deck. I'm hoping to get some sewing done on it before the heat of summer arrives. Fingers crossed!
DeleteYour mother must be so happy with all the attention she got on her 93rd birthday. As you say, it isn't everyone who gets to celebrate #93.
ReplyDeleteDon't you know it!!! Mom loves any and all attention. I guess at that age she deserves every bit of it too. Lol!
