String SAL

Here we are the end of May and Lori at Humble Quilts is hosting a String Linky Party! Go see what all the creative stringers have gotten done this month. Truly amazing stuff!

As for me, I've finished my block for this month. If you recall, I'm doing String-X, a free pattern by Bonnie Hunter, but following along with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2019. This month's color was orange so here is my block. Orange in all its glory! Lol!

I'm also including a picture of Orange playing with his friends (in no particular order). What a group!

Have a great weekend!

Movin' It Forward

I managed to get the final two string strips sewn this morning on my String-X project. Then I trimmed all four to size, including the pointy tips! Final assembly of this block should be this afternoon or tomorrow morning, at the latest!
My wool mat is gray so it kind of gives me an idea how pretty this block will be. I love orange & gray together.

Today is Memorial Day and we remember those who gave their lives so that we may live freely. God Bless the USA!

Another Week Gone!

Another week gone ... or should I say closer to my guild's quilt show. I'm heading up the publicity committee and thing's are really getting frantic. Hoping to get some signs planted around town today. Might be in and out of rain showers though. Wish me luck!

I didn't get a lot accomplished this week which is probably why I haven't posted since last Saturday. This is all I got done as far as piecing.
This week's Tiny Tuesday is adorable!!! It's the little Rail Fence block in the middle. Anyone else wondering what we're doing wrong? This is #21 for me but it's Scrappy Saturday #19 in blogland? Makes no sense to me but ok.

The two long orange string strips are in need of the other pair. Hopefully I'll get them together this weekend? Then I'll be able to add the gray pieces and it will be #5 block of the String-X project. Of course, nothing much may happen until after the quilt show June 8 & 9.

I did get in my walks with Gracie this week. The temperatures turned into summer and Gracie is not a fan. This time of year she lounges mostly in the shade. Thankfully the bike trails are mostly draped with trees.
Here she is getting a drink in the ditch. We've had so much rain lately! The ditch doesn't usually have any water.

Yesterday as we headed out the door for our walk, she stopped short and started sniffing around. She followed the trail and found this. Do you see it?
Right there in the middle -- a box turtle! When we returned from our walk, it was gone. They talk about moving as slow as a turtle but let me tell you -- I've seen them move along pretty quickly before and this one must have scooted when she knew the coast was clear!

Have a good week!

Orange You a Cutie!

Special thanks to Sally at The Objects of Design for providing us our Tiny Tuesday block this week. It was a fun one called Bear Claw Bow Tie. I've tamed mine a bit by giving my bear a pedi! Ha! (Note to self: don't take such a small bite for your scant 1/4" seam.)

After I completed the block, Gracie wanted to give it a try. I think she matches this block perfectly!
This morning I've come downstairs and noted that this week's block was on point and finished it up. Love it!
On my walk yesterday, I saw this little guy crossing the bike path.
Have a great weekend!

Hospital Sketches

I made quite a bit of progress recently on the stitch-a-long with Barbara Brackman's Civil War Quilts blog, called Hospital Sketches. Block #4 is complete (except for trimming and final pressing).
I thought that Block #3 was completed but I need to add an extra leaf at the bottom of the stem to cover the unfinished edge. But you get the idea, right?
Again, these will be joining the first two blocks.

In the meantime, I squeezed in a bit of time yesterday to complete Tiny Tuesday. I LOVE ORANGE and ORANGE is the color for May!
Have a great week!

Movin' Mosaics Forward

Hearts 'n' Hands, the guild that I belong to, will be putting on their quilt show next month. It is called Quilts From the Heart 2019 and it is BIG doings! We actually had to close down entries and will be hanging well over 250 quilts!! With all that being said, I still have a quilt to be finished by June 7th, the date all entries are to be dropped off. I'm bound and determined to have Mosaics (pattern by the incredibly talented AND nice Irene Blanck) ready.
Here are my border pieces all starched and ironed and cut to size. There are two different borders in this quilt and, at four pieces in the first border and four pieces in the second border PLUS four cornerstones, that was a lot of pressing!
Here's the center medallion with a side first border pinned and ready to go under the needle! Ha! I WILL HAVE THIS READY!

That's what I moved forward these past couple of days. There are loads of posts RIGHT HERE describing what others have moved forward this week. Check it out!

Friday Night Sewing With Friends

One just has to wonder what we did before the Internet. I love sewing with different groups all over the world and tonight was no exception. Cheryll from Australia hosts Friday Night Sewing with Friends on the first Friday of the each month. We have a fantastic group of talented ladies that share what they got done on that night. Go HERE to see what everyone did!

As for me, I sat down to this ...
and managed to finish off both leaves and the heart at the end of the flower. Now it looks like this ...
This block is the small #2 sprout from Hospital Sketches. It will join the large #1 wreath that I completed earlier. Remember it now?
Now go check out what the others sewed tonight!

I won't get much else finished because I'm really tired but the St. Louis Blues have just started game 5 against the Dallas Stars and I'm looking for a win. LET'S GO BLUES!!!
