During the first full week of Rainbow Scrap Challenge Pink, I thought I'd dig into my pineapple blocks and get that taken care of right away. I needed two more of these blocks and figured I make them pink since that was the color Angela called for. Ta! Da!
And while I was at it, I finished sewing up the third dark purple pineapple too!
Next, I grabbed my bin full of pink scraps and quickly set to cut the first couple of blocks for the GemTones SAL with American Patchwork & Quilting. I decided this would be a great time to break in my AccuQuilt cutter. If I never use it, I'll never learn it. I converted the pieces into die numbers, grabbed my cutter & dies, nabbed the pink scraps and a background, and set about to the task. In really not that long, I had a bag of cut pieces for two 16" blocks!

I guess I'll find out later this week if I cut the first set of blocks correctly when I start sewing! |
I did go downstairs with the intention of sewing the pieces together and seeing if I was going to be happy or disappointed with my pieces, but then I spied a very pink project that just needed three borders and then quilting. After two separate days of sewing, I got the first two borders on! Look at all that pink!

A Portion of Grandma's Stars |
On Monday, we got quite a bit of snow -- 8 or 9 inches. We were recovering from that when yesterday, Friday, we got a couple more inches of snow. Goodness! Enough is enough until we catch up a bit, please! Here are a couple of pictures taken Friday morning before our walk.

If you'd like to see more pink, visit Angela's blog SoScrappy! Have a good week!
What a fabulous start to Pink January, even if it mostly covered with snow. Love those cute pineapple blocks. Means I must get my act together and soon!
ReplyDeleteOh that snow -- it has stuck around here too long and apparently will be around several more days as we are in the deep freeze. Walked Gracie this morning and it was a brisk feels like temp of -5! We got our mile in but that was all. I think I have a plan for the quilting of the pink quilt. I hope to start getting it marked this afternoon! I hope you're having a good week!
Deletegreat start to pink
ReplyDeleteI can’t wait to see your finished pineapple quilt. So many pretty scraps in your blocks. Lots of snow! We only have a couple of inches…. Gail at the Cozy Quilter
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately the pineapple quilt is on hold for now. I'm anxious to get the pink quilt done. I hope to start marking it for quilting this afternoon. Have a cozy weekend!
DeleteI've always loved those pineapple blocks, and these are so pretty. Grandmother's Stars is a WOW! The fabrics really make those star pop. I have an AccuQuilt cutter that hasn't been used yet. Your post is a good reminder to get it out of the box.
ReplyDeleteSara, that is exactly why I'm doing Gem Tones with Am. Patchwork & Quilting now -- to keep me learning that AccuQuilt cutter. Feel free to join me! (I started piecing the first block yesterday!)
DeleteWhat a beauty of a pink quilt. It must feel great to have a finish so early in the year! The pineapples are a perfect addition to your collection. I hope it warms up enough for some of that snow to melt soon. Until then it is always warm inside under a quilt.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Angela. I hope to start marking the pink quilt for quilting this afternoon!
DeleteYou've got some pretty pink projects in the works, Susie! I love those pineapples - they're going to make a great quilt. And good for you for pulling out that older project and moving it forward. I'm hoping to do some of that this week, too!
ReplyDeleteHopefully I'll get the chance this afternoon to start marking the pink quilt for quilting. Then again I might just start another puzzle or read my book! Lol!
DeleteCute pineapples & good for you to work with that AccuQuilt. You're right, you gotta work it to learn it! And serendipity on the old pink quilt! Fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Sue. I started piecing my "pink parts" of Gem Tones that I'd cut out with the AccuQuilt. I'm having a hard time -- no blame on my cutter but the fact that I can't seem to follow directions! Lol!!! This afternoon I hope to finish one block up and also to start marking the pink quilt for quilting. I hope you're having a great weekend!
DeleteWay to embrace the pink. You had me at the peonies. One of my favorite flowers. Snow is a great excuse to stay in and stay sewing, while admiring the view safely from inside. Everyone one of your pineapple blocks is a treasure.
ReplyDeleteThanks! This afternoon I hope to start marking the pink quilt for quilting. I'd love to have 100% done by month end. Those peonies were spotted on a walk last Spring and I too love them! Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteThe California fires are so devastating - we have bush fires here a lot - and occasionally whole towns get wiped out - but not densely populated areas close to major cities as we are seeing on the news.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your Accuquilt cutting - it is easy, though I do find it a bit wasteful at times
Oh, wasteful is not good. So far I've had very little waste. The useless scraps I've had are going into the making of pet beds for the shelters. I did manage to find some time to sew some of my pieces together. The only trouble I had was due to not following directions. Lol!
DeleteHave you stitched enough pineapples now? I'm waiting patiently to see your colourful pineapples pieced into a top.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry to report that, while I do have enough pineapples now (finally!), my main priority right now is the pink quilt. This afternoon I'm planning on marking it for the quilting. The pineapples will have to wait a bit -- maybe the next finishing project!
DeleteNice to have all those pineapples completed. The snow looks lovely, fresh and white. Hope the pieces you have cut sew up nicely xx
ReplyDeleteI started sewing the pieces together yesterday and the only problem I had was not reading the directions! Lol! Made really good friends with the ripper. Ugh!
DeleteOh my, that pink and yellow quilt is to die for! What a lot of work you had to of put in to it. The more pieces, the more difficult the block. I always have to do a lot of easing when I have a block like that - which I typically don't because I learned my lesson on Burrgonne Surround (I have no idea how to spell that, lol).
ReplyDeleteDid you cut Burgoyne Surrounded using AccuQuilt? If yes, what did you learn so you didn't have as much/any easing? The main tip I've gotten is to feed the straight of grain into the cutter. Thanks for any tips you can share to me, an AccuQuilt newbie!
DeleteI love your pineapple blocks. We got about 4 inches of snow over the weekend. It's actually a little warmer this week when compared to last week. How much longer until Spring????
ReplyDeleteI'm putting my pineapples on hold for a little while so I can start marking the pink quilt for quilting. We're currently in a deep freeze and the snow has stuck around for far too long now. Maybe in the upcoming week we'll say bye-bye to a little more snow. Thanks for the visit!
DeleteThe pink and yellows work so well together! This will be a pretty quilt!
ReplyDeleteThanks! This afternoon I hope to start marking that quilt for quilting. Fingers crossed!
