FNSI Update

Goal accomplished! Friday Night Sew-In allowed me to get to my sewing space and sandwich & sew all the lines of three more of these soon-to-be kitty blankets. It's A LOT of straight line sewing. Might have been boring but I watched the Australian Open. For whatever reason, it was difficult to bring up on my TV but perseverance won out! I don't understand why sometimes I try to watch something on that TV and the cable just doesn't want to cooperate. Might be because I don't get down there often enough??? Just a thought.

Anyway, here's a picture of all four kitty blankets stitched up now and one binding sewn down waiting to hand sew down in place.  Saturday I was able to sew the binding on that one. Note to self: Make the next binding a little wider because there are a lot of layers to wrap around to the other side. Am a little short on this one but I'm sure the fur-baby won't mind!

FNSI and More!

Good morning! I'm going to try to do this all in one day. Don't have time this morning to finish because I get to go to the dentist for a cleaning (♥) after I vacuum this morning. Just got back in from a walk with Gracie (1.71 miles per Runkeeper app) and need to put the warm compress on my nose for 20 minutes. This is because I still have a stitch lodged inside my nostril from my November 23rd surgery! Yoi! Guess that's why there's discomfort and a little redness still. Enough of my non-fun news. Let's get to business!

First off, this Friday evening is FNSI! You know I love the 3rd Friday of the month for just this reason. It's so exciting to see what others are working on. It's also a good reason to sit back and relax with your own project and make some progress. Even if you don't touch it until next month ... you can put a few stitches in place Friday night! Wendy at Sugarlane Quilts hosts it. You can find out more about it and sign up by clicking the link under the FNSI button here:

I plan on sitting in front of my sewing machine mindlessly sewing oodles of straight lines. I hope to make 3 more faux chenille kitty blankets. I made one for my kitty this past weekend while at retreat, only lacking the binding. My daughter has two kitties that would love a blanket and my sister has one kitty. Perfect project while enjoying the tennis being played at the Austalian Open! Love watching the four major tennis tournaments!!

Now let's get caught up on Loopy Academy. My knitting has really been going full steam ahead lately. As for Loopy Academy Junior Year 1st Semester projects:

The gloves you've seen in an earlier post. It was a requirement -- a pair of gloves (NOT mittens!)

These socks fulfilled the "Bobble Stitch" requirement. Sometimes bobbles are called "Popcorn Stitches". Regardless, I knit bobbles at the top of the cuff. This pattern, Cableship, can be found HERE on Knit Purl Hunter's Knit-a-Long. Her socks did not include the bobbles. I just threw them on to fulfill a Loopy Academy requirement!

Our last requirement for the semester was to knit a toy. This pattern can be found on Ravelry HERE . What a fun project! In case you're unfamiliar with The Loopy Ewe (a yarn store in Colorado that used to be here in the St. Louis area), this "toy" is the mascot for the store! It was a quick knit and practically seamless, which is what made it appealing to me. Hate that seaming stuff! Anyway, I think it turned out awfully cute!

Here's one of my projects I'm knitting on right now. These are Cadence Socks by Very Busy Monkey. You can find the pattern HERE . These socks have joined two Knit-a-Longs ... one with Very Busy Monkey (I have until March 31 to finish these) and one with The Loopy Ewe (My 2017 Sock Challenge which requires one to knit a pair of socks each month). The yarn is comes from The Loopy Ewe and is called Inversibles. It is 2-color yarn and they are dyed exactly opposite. The Loopy Ewe has loads of color pairs. Check it out if you like HERE. So many pretty choices!!! Polly practically blends in with the silver & black!

Before you think this is only a knitting blog, Let me share a couple of quilty finishes with you. My Jamestown Sampler, which is #6 of the 2017 UFO Challenge, has been pieced together. I'm showing you the before & after photos here:

The first picture is all the blocks laid out on my kitchen floor. The next one is the blocks sewn together at retreat. Let me tell you my furrows were not always straight. Had to resew three different blocks to get it right! UGH!

How do you like my piggy pillow? It's called Farmer's Market. I bought the pattern from Norma Whaley who publishes under Timeless Traditions. I love her stuff!!! It was a fun project and I love the way it finished. Check it out! I used a leftover quilt block from another project for my pillow label!

"Love One Another" pillow is another Timeless Traditions pattern. I've got this one in the works and I actually sewed the green stems & leaves on already. Will be working on this periodically and would love to say I'll have it finished by Valentine's Day!

Currently I'm also knitting a shawl with my Warm Woolies December yarn. I just saw that the January yarn is ready for shipping. Whew! And I haven't even broken out my cross-stitch yet! High hopes!!!

I hope you get a chance to stitch to your heart's delight!

(PS I started this post yesterday morning ... so much for getting this done in one sitting!)

APQ 2017 UFO Challenge, Knit-A-Longs, & More

Happy 2017! And so starts a new year! First things first -- I was waiting for the announcement of the American Patchwork & Quilting 2017 UFO Challenge number to start the year. Seems it was announced early and it is #6. Turns out it is my Jamestown Sampler quilt which looked like this at the start of the month:
So I decided to see what the status of this project was exactly. I laid out all the finished blocks on my kitchen floor and it looked like this:

Pretty, huh? Weird though. I tried to concentrate my 2017 UFO list to consist mostly of completed tops so I could have 2017 be the year of quilting finishes! Wouldn't you know the first project selected is one that I have to assemble the top and then decide & sew on borders before I can even think about quilting! I have retreat this month so I hope to get this top together then.

While roaming through Ravelry, I decided to join in a couple of knit-a-longs. The Loopy Ewe is probably one of my favorite yarn stores. I love their yarns, programs, blog, and incentives -- basically everything about them! I decided to join in on their 2017 Sock Challenge. Thank goodness they're a loose group because this challenge involves knitting a pair of socks each month. I decided to join halfway, choosing to have a pair of socks knitted every other month. Here's what's on my lap yesterday morning:

I am knitting Cadence Socks  by Very Busy Monkey using yarn purchased at The Loopy Ewe. It's called Fibernymph Dye Works. It's a hand-dyed yarn that the colors mirror each other. They have all sorts of colors but I chose a neutral combo. Loving the pattern so far but I haven't gotten far along yet. It also double-duties in a Very Busy Monkey knit-a-long, which only challenges you to knit a new or in-progress VBM sock pattern. Perfect! One project = two challenges. I can do this!

I also decided to join the Warm Woolies Club through TLE also. Around the middle of December, January, and February they will send me (for a fee, of course) a skein of yarn plus extra goodies. There's a Group Page where they suggest Ravelry patterns to use that skein up. FUN! Another skein I need to wind up. They sent me a skein of Blue Moon's Fiber Arts Super Sparkle in pinks to purples with silver sparkle flecks throughout. I plan on knitting a Reyna cowl with this. You can find the pattern here .

My third knitting project-to-be  means getting another skein of yarn wound up. I got a free pattern when I participated in the One for You, One for Me KAL where, if we knit up 2 or more of Laura Aylor's cowl patterns by a specified date, she gave us a free pattern. She is a wonderful designer and I have the yarn, just need to cast on!

I did manage to FINALLY finish wool applique pillow kit. It's called "Farmer's Market" by Timeless Traditions, aka Norma Whaley. It was a FUN pattern and I thought the pillow turned out cute!

I've lately been trying to work more diligently on my Mosaics applique project. I was so inspired by my friends' progress that I thought I should also get a move on it. Loving it also and will share pictures at a later time when there is some real progress to be shown.

And because that's not enough, I plan on pulling out a cross-stitch project to work on too! Nothing like a new year, a new slate, and I may need a new brain! Did I also mention that I want to start a new bed quilt? I think I'll quietly work on Split 9-Patch by Bonnie Hunter. I should be able to do this in between my other projects. I'd really like to use up some of my scraps this year! High hopes, right?

Happy New Year!

Thank Goodness for FNSI!

Thank goodness for FNSI! Finished the quilting on the last table runner and got labels & bindings attached to both. Only the final hand sewing on these left to do! They'll be gifted out before we know it!

Since I was going strong and the space heater had my basement sewing nook warmed up, I figured I should keep that pedal pushing! Sewed up these two pillowcases. Love the "miracle" of the Burrito Pillowcase! Anyway, see the "Forever Sisters" written on the fabric? I made these for my twin nieces. Even though they're 17 years old, I think they'll love them! I've got more "Frozen" fabric ... need to whip up a few more pillowcases!

I hope everyone that participated in FNSI got a lot accomplished. It's a very busy time of year and we surely need a little breathing room as a treat for ourselves.

On a side note, the applique group that I belong to met this morning. There were some beautiful Mosaic projects making great progress. My poor Mosaic hasn't left the tote that I brought it home from class in! So pathetic! That, my friends, is ONE of my New Years Resolutions: Make more time for applique!!!

Have a good weekend!

Catch-up Time!

Wow! I've got a lot to share today! Sit back and see my promised finishes!

My absolute favorite cowl! It's being gifted for Christmas and I'm almost done with a 2nd one. I swapped out the colors on it and it's looking gorgeous too!

The pattern is Lophelia by Laura Aylor. You can find the pattern Right Here! It's actually an easy pattern to knit. You just need to know how to knit short rows! Brilliant!

Check out my handsome rooster! Isn't he sporty  in a Thorne cowl, pattern also by Laura Aylor. This pattern can be found Over Here!

You may have guessed by now that I was participating in a Cowl-a-Thon sponsored by Laura on Ravelry. It was so fun to see what others were creating at the same time. All so beautiful! In future, I plan on joining other Laur-a-thons. She is incredibly talented!

Being as it IS the beginning of December, I went to the APQ 2016 UFO Challenge to see what the project for the month would be. I kind of figured it out on my own since it's the last but I needed to double-check for myself. It's this one:

Original Post
Current Status

You may remember this was a guild challenge. It needs finishing. I seem to remember that I wanted to make a scalloped bordered on it. However, Christmas will be getting in the way for sewing UFOs this month. I think this one will be making a return to the list for 2017!

Speaking of UFO Challenge 2017, you can get all the details HERE . You will find the link for the Challenge Project Sheet and another link for the Facebook group to share your finishes. It's great incentive for progress all year long. Who knows? Maybe you'll finish a few project too -- like me!

On a personal note, my daughter came in from Alexandria, Virginia for the Thanksgiving holiday. We enjoyed "Moana" at the movie theater. Reminded us of the five years we spent in Hawaii but we agreed that it was based a little more on Tahitian or Maorian (is that a word?) heritage rather than Hawaiian.

We also spent an afternoon at the St. Louis History Museum*, which I didn't even know existed. It was fabulous! We enjoyed all of the exhibits -- Toy, Route 66, and the St. Louis World's Fair. Sarah had just read a book that had some of the history of the St. Louis World's Fair in it so she thoroughly enjoyed it. Me? I fell in love with the building itself! The ceilings are spectacular. Love!
*Side note: The museum was FREE, as was parking! Score!

On the day before Thanksgiving I had the Mohs surgery done on my nose, right nostril to be precise. Sarah stayed home to bake the pumpkin pie while Fred took me over to SLU for my 7:30am appointment. UGH!  I came home looking like the picture on the right. Not too bad.

Today is ten days since. While a lot of the swelling has subsided and the bruising is looking more green & yellow than purple, my eye continues to blacken.
Here are current pictures of me taken this morning. The one is what Fred calls my "Phantom of the Opera" look. The other is what I call my Tareyton-cigarette-commercial look -- "I'd rather fight than switch!" Yes, showing my age here. Sarah doesn't even remember cigarette commercials! "We've come a long way, baby!" *wink*

Stitches come out this Wednesday. Trying to decide: Should I bring a stud earring with me so that, when the stitch through my nostril comes out, I can stick the earring there as a wonderful reminder of this procedure and so that I may be more like my daughter?? Nope, I don't think so .... Haha!

I just had to share on last picture of the Lophelia cowl.
Couldn't resist!

Until next time!

FNSI Update

🎶🎵I feel GOOOOODDD!!! 🎵🎶

I organized, basted, and quilted both table runners Friday night. I also got the binding strips cut, sewn, and ironed. Just need to square up the runners and then get those bindings sewn on!!! Love FNSI Progress!!!

I hope you all got as much as I got done and maybe even MORE!!! Thank you, Wendy, at Sugarlane Quilts for organizing the fun!!

Have a great week!
