Another week has gone by and I've put off looking for an estate sale agent as well as a real estate agent. Also on my list of phone calls neglected was getting Mom & me in with a civilian PCM. The list just seems to always go on and on and on ... But we are back around to Thursday and I do have a few things to share!
Let's start with my birthday weekend. My birthday was on the 21st and it just happened to coincide with the sleep-in-your-own-bed retreat on the 21st & 22nd. Apparently there are several of us with January & February birthdays so one of the retreaters brought in a birthday cake with our names in hearts on it.
Mom had fun at PT this week. Here's a new "trick" they had her do on Monday. That pole is about 8 feet long and is very hard to "steer". First tap all the cones from right to left and then back again. She had to do this as fast as she could for 2 minutes with the last 30 seconds in turbo-time!
The next "trick" was three cones lined up in front of her from near to far. She said this was harder than side by side.

Look at that concentration! |
I've been trying to put in some time with the cross stitch project but it feels like it's taking forever. I've told myself I have to finish this one up before I start the new Spring project. Last seen ....
Progress up to now ...

Still reading "The Quality of Silence" and enjoying it. I'm down to the last 20 or so pages so the end is definitely in sight. My next book will be one recommended by my daughter.
A major BIG LIKE is Survivor kicked off the new season Wednesday night! Whoop! Whoop! I'm looking forward to another good season!
This week was also a major score with personal care. I trimmed Mom's fingernails on Tuesday and cut Fred's hair on Wednesday. Polly better watch out because her claws are next! Ha!
Until next week, try to keep a positive attitude and enjoy the transition from Winter to Spring here in the northern hemisphere!

Happy Birthday! It sounds like fun to celebrate it with your quilty pals. Are you getting ready to sell your mom's house? That's a big job - I've been there. Good for your mom with her PT! She's amazing. My mom with her dementia and weakening body is in a wheelchair now. Very hard to see. Your Christmas cross-stitch is a fun one, but I definitely understand the desire to work on something Spring-y!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fantastic way to spend my birthday. I am always happy to make it to the end of the month when we get together. I really need to contact a realtor and get moving on Mom's house getting sold. Pretty soon we'll be paying for someone to mow her lawn again! UGH! I keep taking Mom to PT twice a week to keep her body strong. She has osteoporosis and I don't want her to fall. Her dementia is definitely worsening too. I hope you & I don't fall into our mothers' footsteps! Let's keep on quilting!
DeleteHappy Belated Birthday, Susie. I hope you had a great time at the retreat. Fabulous photo of you and your mom. I have never been to Texas Roadhouse, but have heard it is good. It is nice to see your Mom smiling as she is working on her PT. It is nice to hear that she is enjoying herself with the tasks given. Have a great weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Melisa. How could I not have a good birthday between quilting with my friends and going out to dinner!?! I am lucky that Mom enjoys PT because I insist that she continue going twice a week even though that takes up my time too. She has osteoporosis and we sure don't want her to fall. Dealing with dementia is certainly enough to try to keep a handle on. Hope you're quilting up a storm!
Deletefun retreat, you look mahvelous! happy birthday week
ReplyDeletesurvivor is gonna be great, right? I loved a 2 hour one! Do you also watch amazing race starting this week? and american idol? we could compare notes, my husband is not good to discuss these with! good PT work, I kind of feel I'd benefit from the pole lift but it would upset my spine, and never eaten at the roadhouse
Unfortunately I do not watch Amazing Race or American Idol. Funny talk about your husband. Turns out I can't discuss Survivor with Mom or hubby bc they don't want to watch it all. I have to watch it solo in another room! Lol!

I love how your Mom is smiling in those photos. What a good sport!
ReplyDeleteThat's one thing about Mom: she's usually smiling which is such a blessing. I don't know if I could handle her care if she wasn't.

Happy Belated Birthday! You both look so happy in the photo! You certainly have a green thumb! Your sweet Mama is certainly working hard, isn’t she? 😊That is a lot of detail on your cross-stitch project. It’s really coming along!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the birthday wishes!

So many lovely happy things in this post, Susie. I had a smile on my face reading it. Neat activities for your Mom there and I loved the cross stitch. Any stitching at all moves it along is the way I look at it. Belated Happy Birthday from me!
