I Like Thursday #180 - The Big Snow

Brrrrrr! It sure has been cold everywhere! Around here, we can expect very cold temperatures through next week as well and then, FINALLY, "normal" cold weather. How did you make out with the "big snow"? We got somewhere between 10" and 12". The way our house sits, we managed to also get the drifts up against our garage door and front door. Every time we got the front walk cleared, the wind blew plenty of snow back all over it again. Argh! On the positive note, it is really beautiful. I like snow!

I'm trying to keep the birdseed holders filled. Quite a job currently. I like my feathered friends.

Male & Female Cardinal at the Back Feeder

I recently got a tip from my friends at Wild Birds Unlimited. They shared to remove the top from the hummingbird feeders and fill them up to use for the regular birds during the hummingbird off-season! Brilliant! I filled mine up with black sunflower seeds -- cardinal favorite!

Woodpecker Enjoying a Feeder Out Front

LeeAnna, our hostess, has a great conversation starter this week. Do we enjoy puzzles? If so, what kind(s) -- jigsaw, crossword, Rubik's Cube? Check out what everyone is sharing at Not Afraid of Color. Maybe you'll get some ideas how to tickle your brain cells! Hahaha!

I love jigsaw puzzles. I do them all on my own on the dining room table, which can accommodate up to 1500 pieces nicely. Fred doesn't care to work on them and Mom no longer can. I also have a love for sodoku (which I got from Dad) and I also love Kakuro but they are very hard to find. A store was selling off several Kakuro puzzle books which I snagged up quickly and still have to finish. Each morning I also go online to the New York Times puzzles and share with my daughter. We both compete with Wordle, Connections, Pips, and Strands. I'm hoping I keep my faculties and do them until the very end. Lol!

Here's to a lovely week for all. Stay safe & warm and doing what you love to do!

  1. Wow you did get a lot of snow! It is so beautiful. I bet your birds are keeping you busy. That is a great tip about the hummingbird feeder. I will have to do that with mine. Have a lovely weekend, Susie. Hugs.

    1. It's always nice to get a good tip whether for quilting or bird feeding, right?? I have to say my cardinals really love it and the starlings seem to want no part of it. Sunflower seeds for my cardinals then. Perfectly happy! Keep on sewing!

  2. Cold and snowy everywhere this last week, it seems! But I think your drifts win the prize there. We've put a loud of bird seed out the last week, too. Beautiful cardinal photo!

    1. Oh my, the seed and peanuts we've been going through! Might need to take out a loan! Hahahaha! I keep trying to get a picture of my blue jay. He comes down, grabs a shelled peanut, and away he flies with his loot. Too fast for this old girl. I hope you're having a wonderful weekend!
