Little By Little ...

Slowly but surely I've managed another blue jewel for RSC 2026.

After a bit of a warm spell, we've turned bitterly cold again for the weekend. My fingers split at the nail due to the cold & dryness so it makes it difficult to do handwork. This upcoming week might lend itself only to prepping a few more jewels but that's OK. I know we'll warm up again.

I did finish Scarlett, my cross stitch project designed by Stacy Nash. I just love her!! She's very helpful and holds my small scissors. *wink*

My Little Helper

Before She Had a Heart

I'm showing her back before I attached the helping heart. I found this linen at my LQS and knew it would be perfect. I LOVE IT!

On a note from the home front: I've been very busy going through Mom's house, sorting what to donate, what to trash, what to put into storage, what to recycle. I have also been setting up the move to a storage unit and making phone calls to cut off her utilities. On top of that, Mom continues to happily go to PT twice a week and make the drive with me to get her weekly hair care. I have less than a month until the closing date of Feb. 13th, which is a Friday. I hope it doesn't live up to its legacy -- Friday the 13th.

Wishing everyone a safe & healthy week! Do check in at So Scrappy to see what amazing Rainbow Scrap projects are being sewn.

  1. Going through a whole household of things - so much work! Hope the whole move and closing goes smoothly for you both. Cute little hand pieced blocks. I've been working on the same shapes, but turning them into little hearts.

    1. What a great idea! I can certainly see how they'd make hearts. I don't think I caught them on your blog yet. Sadly, I'm not too good at getting to all the posts but I do try. Thanks for the wishes for a smooth closing. I'll be so relieved when it's over. Hopefully I won't have any regrets.

  2. Your blue blocks are so pretty, Susie - I love that shape! Scarlett turned out great, and the heart that holds scissors is a handy surprise, too. Good luck with your mom's house stuff - I know what a big job it is!

    1. Oh geez, Diann, I'm so exhausted from the work of getting the house cleaned out of what we want to keep. But enough of that, thank you for the compliment on Scarlett. She was easy stitching which was right up my alley. Then she was easy sewing, which is again right up my alley. Win-win! I do love her and have two more to make. Stay tuned!

  4. I do like those blue jewel blocks! I debated on ordering some of the papers when you posted pictures before, but I decided I have too much going on right now to work on them.

    1. The jewel blocks do take some time ... first to select the fabrics, then to prep the papers with fabric, and finally to stitch them up. As you might know, I have plenty of time to hand stitch due to Mom moving in with us (she has dementia which is only getting worse). What I wish for is more machine time! Either way, we both need to keep on stitching!

    1. Scarlett was a joy to make, Lin. I just keep looking at her and loving her more. Silly, huh? She was just what I needed when I needed. Thanks for the good wishes on the cleaning out Mom's house. It'll be a relief when it's over. Have a good week and keep on crocheting that blanket. It's looking so beautiful!

  8. I’ve cleaned out a couple of houses after parents have had to move into care homes. It is a huge job, physically and emotionally.
